Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (CBC) is a structured, goal-oriented short-term model of coaching that combines science-based principles from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with coaching techniques to help clients gain perspective on psychological or emotional barriers that may interfere with achieving professional goals. CBC is a proven effective modality for identifying and modifying unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors, enhancing problem-solving skills, and fostering adaptive thinking. The principle at the core of CBC is that our thoughts influence our emotions, which in turn influence our behaviors. Changing what we think about an event opens the door to positive change in emotions and behaviors. CBC is ideal for leaders who want to understand potentially limiting beliefs / thoughts that may be influencing their behaviors and want to take a structured path to address them.
What is the difference between coaching and psychotherapy?
Coaching is a structured process that facilitates the client's awareness, growth and action taking for moving forward. While coaching is focused on the client's present and actionable goals for the future, psychotherapy supports the client's deep awareness and understanding of how and why early experiences have informed their thinking patterns and responses and what this means for their mental and emotional wellbeing. Both psychotherapy and coaching are centered in the client's needs, and a trusting alliance with the client is critical for both.
