What we think about the difficult things we face in life, how we feel about them, and how we respond to them can seep into all aspects of our lives.
The outcome can be feeling anxious. Depressed. Lack of energy. Feeling out of place in your own life. These human responses can be a consequence of the enormous load that people – particularly leaders - carry today.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is instrumental in enhancing self-awareness, emotional intelligence, resilience, and overall personal and professional effectiveness. By addressing the unconscious factors influencing their behavior, leaders can achieve meaningful personal growth and improve their ability to lead effectively in complex and dynamic business environments.
Cognitive Behavioral Coaching
Drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy’s psychological models of personal change, Cognitive Behavioral Coaching (CBC) brings a science-based approach to coaching that is ideal for leaders who want to understand potentially limiting beliefs / thoughts that may be influencing their behaviors and who want to take an action-oriented path towards addressing them.
Note: while CBC may be therapeutic, it is not therapy.
What is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy?
Psychodynamic psychotherapy explores the unconscious processes that influence behavior, emotions, and thoughts. Rooted in psychoanalytic theories but incorporating various psychological frameworks, it focuses on understanding the deep-seated roots of psychological and emotional distress by examining past experiences, unresolved conflicts, and intricate relationship dynamics. This deeper understanding facilitates emotional growth, improved coping strategies, and healthier interpersonal relationships, both at work and at home.
What is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy like?
At Percepta Leadership, our approach to psychotherapy is collaborative and reflective, forming a partnership between the therapist and the client. Together, we explore unconscious patterns, defense mechanisms, and internalized relationships with the shared goal of helping clients gain self-awareness and insight. While psychodynamic psychotherapy is typically a longer-term treatment, some discrete goals, such as addressing a specific interpersonal concern, can be achieved in a few weeks or several months. More substantial goals, such as adapting to changes and challenges, improving self-esteem, or making significant changes in one's approach to relationships, may require a longer commitment.
What if a client wants both coaching and therapy?
To uphold ethical boundaries between therapeutic and coaching services, we establish a service agreement tailored to the client's specific needs, indicating whether coaching or therapy would be more beneficial. Occasionally, clients may seek both coaching and therapy support. In such cases, we carefully consider how to structure this dual support while maintaining the strict ethical guidelines that govern our coaching and therapy services.
