We all face challenges on a daily basis that are intrinsic to being human.
Not getting that promotion. A work project going poorly. Losing a client to a competitor. Interpersonal conflicts. Organizational changes. These can be daily forces in the workplace and often cause significant pressure and stress. On top of these can be mental health struggles such as anxiety or depression. Dual demands of kids and aging parents. Financial stress. Divorce. Loss of a partner or child.
Maintaining emotional balance in the midst of life's chaos is part of what it means to be human.
Our mental, cognitive and emotional schemas can drive, compel, challenge, and limit us.
What we believe, how we think, and what we feel are all behind how we behave. The struggle to be our best in the face of challenge can be especially felt by leaders who are typically under inordinate pressure to deliver. Maintaining a superhuman pace, keeping a stiff upper lip, and forging ahead can extract great costs and cause us to not only let ourselves down, but also the people we lead and the people we love.
Our internal schemas shape our ability - or difficulty - to be resilient and adaptable.
We may think we’re good at not showing on the outside what’s really going on inside, but over time, disruptions to what helps keep us moored – the people we love, the career we've built, the status we’ve earned – will start extracting a cost. What we think about what’s happening, how we feel about it, and how we respond to it will without question seep into all aspects of our lives.
Our inability to fully compartmentalize is inevitable to being, well, human.
Workplaces are inherently set up to experience challenge and conflict. We get that this may not be a popular thing to say. And we acknowledge how businesses today are striving to embrace a more socially-oriented agenda. But... the reality is that business means competition. It means profit. And given today's disruptive business environment, that inevitably means pressure.
It's not about getting it right all the time, it's about being human in the virtuous attempt.
Our mission is to help leaders be their best, human selves. By leveraging our real-world professional experience along with rigorous training as coaches and therapists, we help leaders achieve personal and professional growth, by:
